Livening up an old couch with a colorful area rug

What colors can I use that would give color to my
grayish/bluish couch? HELP!?

I think out of all of those colors, I'd choose brown and blue accents. Dark brown goes with black, white, and red easily, and it can bring out the blue in a greyish/blue couch. Dark brown and blue is a great combo.

Try to alternate between dark brown and blue throw pillows. Find something with a pattern so they color pops when you look at it. Add mirrors here and there to reflect the color. Throw pillows should be in a similar color/pattern. You can find so much out there right now in brown or blue.

On your windows, add sheer curtains. They will allow light in and if you follow the color theme they will bring a uniformity to your room.

On your rug, add a big area rug with your colors in it. An area rug like this Blue and Beige contemporary would draw your eye away from the couch and onto the floor, livening up the room.

Other items I'd add to your room: patterned picture frames or word art (ie: friends, family, love, etc.) Lamps add light and ambiance, and if you have a chocolate lamp shade it adds color to your room.

If you find that you still aren't happy with the couch, you can cover it up with a slip cover. They are fairly inexpensive now, and you can find them at Ikea, Ross, TJ Maxx, and other stores.

Dark brown on the walls, and an area rug as the final touch

Brown is still a very hot color, and I've found that its being used on
walls, furniture and carpet.

If you are looking to complement dark brown furniture, you can either
paint metallic blue, taupe, a mix of taupe and dark brown (alternating
walls), or straight taupe and then a feature wall of orange or deep fall
red. If you add a bunch of throw pillows to the couch in your
contrasting color (blue, or orange/red) and other accessories with a
touch of color, your feature wall will really pop.

I've found you can choose almost any straight paint color, but its the
throw pillows, area rugs like this dark brown area rug and knick
knacks that will really bring your room to life.

How can I make a hang-out corner in my room?

To create a hang out corner, you should first devise a theme for it. You can keep to the same theme that your entire room is, or you can change it up by adding extra touches.

An example: If your room is hot pink and girly, you can jazz up your hang up corner by adding black, white, or animal print.

Get at least one big pillow that would be your focal point in the corner. Alternately you can get a small bean bag chair or two, or a fluffy chair that you can sit in. An area rug can add to your theme, and a rug like this Animal Print Area Rug can liven up a hot pink room in your hang out corner.

Add pictures or posters of your favorite things. If you are sticking to a theme, keep them in your theme colors.

If you have an iPod, add a docking station so you can listen to the music out loud. Add magazines in a basket or books on a small shelf.

Hot pink and girly? Add an area rug to complete your space

What color rug will look good with a dark pink room?

The color of rug you pick depends on whether you want to add a bit of
splash to your room or if you just want something to accent the pink.

If you want to add a 'theme' to your room, why not try an animal print
rug? A rug like this Animal Print area rug would look
great with pink. You can accent with zebra print throw pillows and a
few frames or pieces of wall art.

If animal print isn't your thing, you can add an accent rug that would
neutralize the dark pink. A rug in cream, white, or taupe would look
great with that color. Something like this shag area rug in shades of cream would be
comfy on the feet.

There are also other rugs that you can add. If you like girly stuff,
this area rug would be great, complete with butterflies and hot pink accents.

White walls? Not a problem with a zebra area rug

How should I decorate my room?

                  I'm 13 and I'm gonna be a freshmen
in high school this year. My walls are white and I can't paint them any
other color :(

There are a lot of ways to jazz up a room without
painting.

A great theme for room that you can't paint and don't want too girly is
zebra/animal print. Because your have white walls, you can go as wild as
you like.

Add a new comforter to your bed. Choose a hot, bright color like
turquoise, red, or hot pink. With some new throw pillows a cuddly
blanket or two, your bed will look like an ad in a magazine.

On your floor, add a large zebra area rug. Something like this Zebra area rug would be
great in a room with white walls and bright color everywhere else.

Posters are relatively inexpensive and are a great way to liven up the
walls. You can buy posters online or at your local Walmart. As well, buy
a bulletin board and some picture frames. You can also add some word
art to your walls, and there are lots of sayings you can choose from.

Don't forget about curtains. They make your room cozy and add color as
well.

The carpet in my room is forest green. on your walls. You don't want to choose a shade that is too dark, as the
carpet is already dark enough.

Another alternative is to lighten up the rug area by adding a large area
rug. If you buy one large enough you could cover a big enough area that
most of the green is covered. A contemporary area rug like this Anji Mountain Bamboo rug would jazz
up your room and detract from the forest green rug.

I did two walls in my kitchen red and the rest brown. It really brightens it up, but not to the point I'll get sick of it.

I think the key to not overdoing modern country is to avoid all of the cliches and focusing on colors and pattens. Gingham is a great material for throw pillows, and looks great in red. You can use gingham for curtains as well. I have a straight black table, but I have benches instead of chairs, so it gives off a country feel.

Add a braided area rug on your floor like this brown braided area rug. It gives off a country feel and is very comfy under your feet.

Animal print area rugs for a sophisticated 18 year old

18 year old bedroom ideas?
The key to having a bright room and not getting sick of it too quickly
is to use the colors sparingly.

If you choose hot pink and black, then accent with an animal print, the
trick is lighten it all up with some white. Paint one feature wall hot
pink and the rest white, or if you really like the hot pink, paint two
walls that color and the rest white.

Use black in your furniture and as part of your bedding. You can find a
lot of great pink and black bedding. Solids tend to be boring, so find
something in hot pink with large black patterns or black with large pink
patterns.

Incorporate the animal print into your room by adding a large animal
print area rug. Something like this zebra print area rug but in a
cheetah pattern would look great in a hot pink room.

Throw pillows in cheetah, pink, or black liven up the bedding, as does
black frames on the walls with posters that have a touch of pink or
cheetah. A cheetah blanket over the end of your bed is great for napping
and also brings in that bit of animal pattern as well.

I have a lime green carpet and

great with lime green and pink, but wouldn't add an additional color to
mix things up even more.

You can incorporate the zebra theme in your accessories as well. Zebra lampshades, black and white frames, or a splash of zebra in the form of throw pillows all work together for a great room.

Lumpy area rug getting you down? Straighten it out quickly

Carpet question what do I do?
I rolled it out and it looks good, however there is lumps or air pockets
in the middle that i cant get out. Should I add water?

I wouldn't add water, that will only wreck
the rug.

When I have lumps in an area rug, I lay it out flat on the opposite side
it normally sits on. Once its upside down, I try to put something heavy
on top of the lumps. If it's a fairly large area that is lumpy, I let
it sit for awhile and then move it to another area. Even better, if you
have a big, heavy object you can place on the lumpy parts and just leave
it for a day or two.

Once its been flattened, turn it over and everything should be less
lumpy.

Another thing you can try is carpet tape, especially if the edges of the
carpet are lumpy as well.

Surfboard area rugs add a splash to boys rooms

Looking for cheap & crafty ideas on how to
decorate 2 small boys surf/Hawaiian themed room?

I did a similar theme in a room once, and it was really easy to add beachy touches.

I found a large mural and I put
it on the wall behind the bunk bed. It makes you feel as
though you are walking onto the beach.

I added a few surfboard rugs too. I picked this Offshore surfboard area rug
and this Surfsup area rug .

On their window, I added sheer curtains because the room was already
dark in color. To block light, I put a navy blue roman blind up. It
really works to keep them in their beds at 5:30 am in the summer!

I also mounted a foam surfboard that I bought at Costco on one of their
walls, and put up a few framed photos of them on the beach in Hawaii to
add to the mix. It really personalizes their room.

Teen Hangout is more comfy with a flokati area rug

Teen Hangout Room Ideas?

For a bold room, I'd choose hot pink, lime
green, and use orange as an accent.

Depending on how bold you want the room, you could paint each color
(pink and green) on two walls each. If you just want a splash of color,
you could have the walls white except for bold stripes in hot pink and
lime green. Stripes are really easy to do with painters tape. I've also
seen those colors used in squares or circles created on plain white
walls.

Bean bags are a must in rooms that you just want to hang out in. Go for
the fuzzy fabric kind that feel more like giant pillows than bean bags.
Have a shelving unit full of magazines and books and an iPod dock so you
can all listen to music.

On your walls, use mirrors, wall sconces for candles, and framed photos
in orange frames as accents. Be sure to have a lot of throw pillows
lying around, and for an extra comfy floor add a big shag area rug like
this lime green flokati area rug or this vivid fuchia area rug.

Another nice touch is a bubbling fountain or a retro lava lamp. They
provide a soft glow and look great in a bright room.

Bamboo area rugs under your dining room table

Can anyone tell me how a bamboo area rug would do on
carpet?

I think a bamboo rug is a great idea for under
neath a dining room table. Not only are they durable, they won't curl up
at the edges when placed on carpets (like some area rugs might)

The trick to not getting the rug to bunch up is to adhere heavy carpet
tape and fasten it to the rug. The edges won't curl up.

There are different types of bamboo area rugs. You can get the natural
bamboo weave like this natural bamboo area rug or a bamboo
shag in a deep color to hide stains, etc. like this coffee bean shag bamboo area rug.

There is a
lot of choice when it comes to bamboo.
