What are some good decorating tips for a teenage girl room?

pastel-violet-f-300-03.jpgSometimes just changing your bedding and adding a focal point can liven up your room.

Buy a new duvet cover or comforter from a place like Ross. Ross or TJ Maxx has some great deals on bedding and linens, and the prices are great.

Add an organization center to your wall. You can put notes, pictures, and favorite souvenirs all together in one space like Pottery Barn does. Use the pottery barn as an example, you can put together your own for much less.

Add a large focal point to your floor, such as a comfy area rug. An area rug can pull your room together. Add a rug such as this Animal print if you like Zebra print or a softy, fluffy, shag rug like this Violet Shag if you like a solid color.

How can I make my room a little more soundproof?

You can definitely use rugs to minimize sound, and you will notice the difference especially if you currently have flooring and no carpet.

To maximize the sound proofing, use plush rugs such as a super soft shag or flokati. A rug such as this Chocolate Flokati is super thick, and if you cover your flooring with it can minimize any sound coming from your room.

In addition to the area rugs, you can add weather stripping to the inside of your door frame. Most people don't weather strip inside, but it is a great way to minimize sound coming in and out.

Curtains on your window also help diminish sound from inside and out. Buy a thick cotton curtain as opposed to sheers.

Arabian themed room, suggestions?

dyn-myst-2214-5031.jpgSounds like you have it all planned out! Burgandy walls, curtains, and highlights of teal and purple.

My only suggestion is to be sure that there is some light colors in the mix. Without light to balance the dark, your room won't give off the same vibe.

An area rug on your floor is a great idea to tie everything together.  Try a rug like this Wine area rug that has wine/teal in it, then balance it out with some teal throw pillows on the bed or a hot teal throw blanket.

If you are going for burgundy curtains, be sure to use sheer.  With dark walls, you need to let in as much light as possible.

Have fun!

What should I decorate my room like?

Can I add rhinestones to my walls?

dyn-300-myst-0020-8168-01.jpgIt sounds like you want a pretty room, and you can definitely put rhinestones on the walls. I've done it myself.  Here is what I did to add rhinestones.

Get a stencil that you like.  In a room like yours, you can add a stencil that represents something you like about gypsy/renaissance.  Big flowers, leaves, etc are all great for a theme like that. I did large leaves in the room I stenciled, and started them down by the floor and took them halfway up the wall. When I was done, it looked like large plants growing from the floor.  Take the rhinestones and a hot glue gun (get your mom to help if need be). Glue them in strategic places within your stencil. I did a trail around and through certain leaves.  It looks really pretty.

If you have really big rhinestones (mine were small), you could put fake frames around them and glue them to your wall.  Add a small water fountain in one corner. It is soothing and would work in your theme.

For curtains, use long, colorful scarves. Clip them to the rod with curtain clips, and alternate colors.

On your floor, try a pretty area rug that will tie your colors together. Something like this Multi color area rug would be perfect in a room with orange and green.

Have fun! Sounds like a very pretty room.

Help on redecorating my room?

I want to paint the walls a new color, probably a dark red

dyn-allure1904-300.jpgI've had a bright red room and it becomes a little harsh to sleep in. Dark red is beautiful, and really eye catching, but you become tired of it quickly. If possible stay far, far away from tomato reds and find a wine color or a rich, deep, warm red that you really like. If you worry about painting the entire room red, do a feature wall with the red color and the other colors a contrast.

If you choose a warm red, try an area rug like this Deep Rich Red. It's rich, beautiful, and adds just the right amount of contrast with your surrounding walls.

Chocolate brown goes with rich red, so you can choose that for any other stuff you want to add to your room.
