What color should i paint my room?

I'm planning on getting black furniture and a black and white either zebra print, or floral design.

dyn-nolita-1310-090.jpgIf you like zebra print, choose hot pink. Hot pink looks great with zebra print, and can do an entire theme around it.

Use zebra accents, such as throw pillows, bedding, and a large animal print area rug like this zebra print area rug.

You might not want an entire room in hot pink, so you could use the color on an accent wall behind your bed and paint the other walls a neutral cream or white.

How to decorate an area in my home?

We have moved into a new house and the upstairs has hardwood floors and a beautiful bay window with an empty space in front of it.

I'd create a separate reading area in that space, and build in a window seat. Bay windows are a great place to put window seats.

If you have the seat created for you, I'd put shelves below to store books or knick-knacks. I'd put a large, puffy cushion on the seat and several throw pillows to make it comfy for reading. If you have the space along the sides, get a couple of built ins for extra storage.

On your floor, add a space defining area rug. Area rugs are a must have for hardwood floors, as they add extra comfort and separate your areas. A contemporary area rug  is a great addition to any room.

Ideas on how i should design my new room?

TAY300RoyalIvory7882.jpgI'd do a feature wall with your favorite color, then a neutral color on all of the other walls.

Once your room is painted, move your furniture around so that you have the best placements with the most amount of space.

Add a big zebra striped area rug on your floor like this Zebra area rug. Not only will it liven up your floor, but it will establish a zebra theme to your room. Once you have something large like an area rug, you can add smaller zebra elements such as picture frames, throw pillows, blankets, and candles.

What would make a good room?

Here is a list that I always go to when I'm jazzing up any room.

Curtains: If you don't have curtains, your room just looks unfinished. You can find sheers that have nice accents, patterns, or curtains with heavy duty backing so that the light doesn't come in.

A bed frame: If you don't have a bed frame, your bed will look plain. You can buy them fairly inexpensively or you can create a headboard yourself by following some DIY instructions.

Nice bedding: Nice bedding really jazzes up a room. Buy a nice duvet and a nice duvet cover. You can accent the bed with throw pillows and extra blankets. Be sure to buy comfy pillows that sit nicely on your bed too.

Picture frames: Find picture frames all in one color but different shapes and sizes. Make a collage on your wall. You can also buy magnetic boards and put them up on a grid, then attach photos you love with magnets.

Word art: I love word art, because it can become a theme. Any word art will do, and you can find various web sites online that sell easy to apply word art.

Mirrors: If you have a well placed mirror here and there, it opens up a small room and gives the illusion of space.

Lighting: Proper lighting is the one thing that will take a room that looks dark and uncomfortable and make it cozy. Have task lighting, lamps, and overhead lighting.

Paint: Paint is the easiest way to liven up a room. Pick a color you love and do a feature wall if you don't want to paint every wall.

Area rugs: A nice big area rug on your floor makes your whole room cozy. An area rug such as these modern area rugs http://houseofarearugs.com/Contemporary-Rugs-p-1-c-9.html will really liven up your space with color and style.

What colors can I use that would give color to my grayish/bluish couch? HELP!?

I think out of all of those colors, I'd choose brown and blue accents. Dark brown goes with black, white, and red easily, and it can bring out the blue in a greyish/blue couch. Dark brown and blue is a great combo.

Try to alternate between dark brown and blue throw pillows. Find something with a pattern so they color pops when you look at it. Add mirrors here and there to reflect the color. Throw pillows should be in a similar color/pattern. You can find so much out there right now in brown or blue.

On your windows, add sheer curtains. They will allow light in and if you follow the color theme they will bring a uniformity to your room.

On your rug, add a big area rug with your colors in it. An area rug like this Blue and Beige contemporary would draw your eye away from the couch and onto the floor, livening up the room.

Other items I'd add to your room: patterned picture frames or word art (ie: friends, family, love, etc.) Lamps add light and ambiance, and if you have a chocolate lamp shade it adds color to your room.

If you find that you still aren't happy with the couch, you can cover it up with a slip cover. They are fairly inexpensive now, and you can find them at Ikea, Ross, TJ Maxx, and other stores.

What paint colors go with dark brown?

Brown is still a very hot color, and I've found that its being used on walls, furniture and carpet.

If you are looking to complement dark brown furniture, you can either paint metallic blue, taupe, a mix of taupe and dark brown (alternating walls), or straight taupe and then a feature wall of orange or deep fall red. If you add a bunch of throw pillows to the couch in your contrasting color (blue, or orange/red) and other accessories with a touch of color, your feature wall will really pop.

I've found you can choose almost any straight paint color, but its the throw pillows, area rugs like this dark brown area rug and knick knacks that will really bring your room to life.
