I need help redecorating my room?

rmk-kid-12-268.jpgIf you still like girly/rainbow, there are some ways you can just add to it to make it perfect for you.

PB Teen seems to favor light pink/green, and patterns like stripes and polka dots. You could add a stripe/polka dot theme to a rainbow theme without much trouble as long as you stick to one or two colors of the rainbow.

On your bed, add a white duvet cover with striped sheets in your colors. Put brightly colored throw pillows on your bed to liven up the white, but duvets are comfy ,cozy, and really make your bed feel luxurious.

Instead of getting a new lamp, get a new lamp shade in a fabric that matches your room. Paper lanterns are inexpensive at any bargain store, and if you stick to your colors they will look great strung across your window or along your wall. Floor lamps can be bought in white, which will blend in great in your room. If you have the space, add a large bean bag in polka dots, stripes, or a solid color. Stick it beside your bedside table and create a small reading area for yourself.

Save money by shopping at stores like Ross or TJ Maxx. You'd be amazed at what you'd find there.

On your floor, add a great are rug such as this Dotty Girls Area Rug to liven up your floor and really bring a theme to your room.

Getting rid of stuffed animal clutter is easy with teddy bear hammocks that you can hang in the corners of your room. Put one in each corner if you have a lot of stuffed animals. Another great idea for stuffed animals such as WebKinz is to buy an inexpensive mesh over the door shoe holder (you can buy them at Ross for $6) and hang it on your door. Put a single stuffed animal in each pocket. A shoe holder like that holds about 25 small stuffies.

Have fun!

What is the most appropriate rug for my living room?

I have a red leather living room set with black tables.

dyn-nolita-1306-090.jpgWithout knowing the shade of red you have for your couch or what type of black the tables are (shiny, flat, wood, etc.), I would say go for a combo of rug/wall that will minimize the red of your couches. Often in black and white rooms, you can add a slash of red to liven things up a bit. However, in the case of a red couch, you have a large amount of color and need to work it into a neutral palette.

I'd go for a rug such as this Black and Red contemporary area rug that will still draw in your colors but isn't too bold. Alternately, you could choose an area rug such as this Black ash area rug if you like all black and prefer a luxurious shag area rug.

With a room such as yours, I'd go for a feature wall that is bright and the rest of the room neutral. If you don't like white or off white for your walls, you could paint the entire room a light mocha or other light neutral. It will still work with your furniture, it just won't be as bold. If you don't mind white, you could put up some white/black wall paper on your feature wall in a striking pattern.

What color for a modern area rug should we get for our living room?

We want a big one, 3 meters x 3 meters.

dyn-nolita-1306-110.jpgI'd choose an area rug that will pick up on the colors in your room without dedicating itself to just one color. An area rug such as this Beige Circles area rug would be perfect with your wall color and couch color. It would also pick up on the white of your wall unit.

When placing a large area rug, be sure to work it in as part of your room. Place it at the base of your couch or in front of your wall unit, depending on the location. An area rug can be a focal point, so make the most of it.

When you have a contemporary area rug, you can take shapes or colors from it and work them in as accessories in your room. With circles, you can add a circular vase, lamps, or photo frames.

I am fifteen and need good ideas for my room?

My favorite color is blue

Although splatter painting would be definitely eye-catching, it is also something that you will get sick of quickly.

If you like bright colors and want an eye catching room, try a bright blue/lime green combo. You can paint your walls bright blue and accent with lime green.  You can add lime green pillows to your bed, frame some favorite pictures in a mix of lime green/blue frames, or add a large organizational center to one wall to store your pictures and other treasures.

If you still want to do something with splatter paint, grab a big canvas from your local art store and splatter that. Once it's done, hang it on the wall.

A great accessory for a bright room is an area rug. If you are accenting with lime green, you could add an area rug such as this lime green flokati area rug.

With these additions, you should end up with a great looking bedroom.

Is it ok to match black and white furniture?

I have a white desk and vanity. I am looking to purchase an absolutely gorgeous bed but it's black. Is it okay to mismatch?
dyn-nolita-1307-110.jpg

Yes, you can match the two up by adding another strong color to your room as a feature color.

With a white desk and vanity, you can add a feature color such as deep red, hot pink, or turquoise. The color should be bright to offset the dark of the black.

Once you have your featured color, tie everything together with varied accessories.  If you have a solid white duvet cover on your bed, add a set of deep red or red/black blend pillows. On your floor, add a large area rug that features your colors.  A great example is a rug such as this Allure Rich Red Area Rug or this Beige and Blue Area Rug.  Be sure it's a large, eye catching area rug, and make it a focal point of your room.

Black and white furniture really goes well together if you do it correctly. Have fun with it!

Area Rug/Carpet Question?

How do you think it would look if I bout a piece of carpet a little smaller than the size of the room and put that down? Like 3-5 inches of hardwood still exposed around the edges of the room.

beige-shag.jpgIt won't look weird at all, and a lot of people do that. When you have hardwood floor with nothing to break it up, it kind of feels cold and endless if you know what I mean? Putting a big area rug down can warm up a room or simply change the style of it.

If you are looking for a specific shag/thick carpet in a neutral color you could try something like this Bamboo Shag or this Romance Champagne Area rug.

Any high quality rug won't unravel as it will be reinforced at the edges. To keep the rug from curling at the edges on your floor, adhere it with carpet tape to the floor.

Bedroom ideas anyone?

Okay i just painted my room Fusion pink which for those who don't know kinda looks like hot pink except a little darker.

dyn-nolita-det-1310-090.jpgWith a color on your walls like that, I'd choose an animal print theme. It's easy to mix and match, and you won't get sick of it in the same way you might get sick of flowers or stripes.

Find bedding that is almost neutral, but jazz it up with zebra patterned sheets and a zebra print throw pillows.  You could do an offwhite/pink color for your comforter, or a black and white.

On your rug, add a focal point that brings your room together such as a large zebra print area rug. A rug such as this Zebra print would look great with fusion pink.

On your window, add a curtain that is sheer or one that has a small pattern to it. With walls that dark, you don't want a busy looking window.

There are a ton of smaller accessories that are animal print. You can find picture frames, candles, organization centers, or mirrors with animal print. Even a few items can lend a lot to your room.

What is a good wall color for a living room with a white tile floor?

cocoa-f-300-03.jpgWith a floor color like white, you can do almost any color. I'd focus on dark colors though, for at least one feature wall at least. Choose a chocolate brown on one wall and then a slightly lighter color on the other walls. You can put a great piece of artwork or family photos on the dark wall, and it will stand out against the floor.

Warm up your tile by adding area rugs. A warm, cozy shag would look great against white tile. Put something like this Cocoa Flokati on your floor. It  would look great with chocolate/taupe walls and dark brown wood coffee tables.

Can you help with some ideas to decorate a rectangle living room?

dyn-funky-2449_9116.jpgAdd a lot of color and a few differently shaped items to spice up your room.

If your room is a rectangle, focus on circular or rounded shapes. For example, a coffee table that has a curve like this would add some depth to a rectangle room.

When you have black and tan as your base, you are pretty free to add color where ever you see fit.  Put some bright red throw pillows on your couch. If red isn't your color, try a blue. Anything with a deep, vibrant tint will stand out.  Focus on different fabrics as well.

On your floor, add an area rug that has circular shapes such as this Funky Cream or this Dark Chocolate shag. A rug this color will contrast very well with your couch.

I'm not sure if you have windows in your room, but if you do you should add a curtain. Curtains always add a warmth to your room that bare windows are lacking.

If you can, grab an end table or two. Putting lamps on your end tables and surrounding your couch will make your room cozy. A vase with fresh flowers also adds a nice touch.
