Rug in a room with carpet?

Is stupid to put a rug on carpet?

pastel-blue-f-300-04.jpgThere are so many reasons why you should use area rugs over carpet, and brightening up a room is just one of them.

Area rugs protect your carpet and keep it from wearing out too quickly.  You can change area rugs up every time you want to change your decor, so you will always feel as though your flooring is stylish and up to date. You can go a little wild when you have area rugs, and try out colors and patterns you might normally not try.  If you don't like the style, simply go out and get a new rug.

There are quite a few different styles you could try to brighten up your room.  If you like retro, try this super soft Flokati rug in a neutral color:  (I'm not sure what color your current rug is or what color you like)  If you like something more modern, try a Modern area rug with a pattern.  I'd definitely go with a shag rug in a bedroom though, as it is so comfy to sink your toes into .

Help with room decor?

You have nice bedding, and it makes your room look retro, so I'd go with an entire retro theme.

Choose pillows for your bed in pale yellow or a crisp white.  Choose fabrics that complement your bedding, like smooth silks or those with tiny embroidery.  Add a throw blanket to the bottom of your bed for added comfort.  Something like a nubby cashmere (although you can find a similar blanket for a lot less) would look great on your bed.

On your floor, a rug that is cleanable and yet still matches your decor is definitely doable.  I would suggest a rug like this Yellow area rug or something retro in a shag like this Flokati. It's fluffy, but still durable and very easy to take care of.

Bean Bag chairs are available at WalMart or other home decors, but the best bean bag chair I've ever sat in comes from Pottery Barn. It's a seriously comfortable bean bag, and you'll like sitting in it to read books or watch TV.

It's the accessories that pull a room together, so don't forget about your walls.  Hang a message board where you can post pictures, concert tickets, or other mementos.  Cover an area of your room with photos in different sizes of frames.  Choose a light fixture that is different than the usual types, such as a small chandelier.  The little things really make it all work.

How to design my new room?

I'm a big Twilight fan and I need storage ideas

dyn-300-eclip-63011-3313-01.jpgTwilight fans unite! Are you Team Edward? There has never been a better time to be a vampire fan.

In a room where you don't have a space for a real closet, purchase a large wardrobe. Ikea does have a lot of choice, but if you don't live near an Ikea any home decor store will carry them. If you want to create a 'closet' on a cheaper budget, find a corner of your room that will work as storage. Install a rod that will work as a rack for your clothes. A rounded shower curtain rod works well for a pseudo closet. Hang your clothes on the rod, and place your shoes/accessories in boxes on a small shelf underneath. You can storage for shoes and other things that will hang on the front and back of your door as well. Long plastic containers fit under your bed, and are great for things like sweaters and books.

On your floor, add a large area rug that will take up the maximum amount of space. A rug such as this Black Flokati is soft, black, and would look great in a room that focused on Twilight. Another great black rug is the Eclipse brown and black.

I need a rug idea to go with my vintage room idea...?

dyn-300-eclip-63021-4343-01.jpgI love your toile comforter. The pattern is beautiful, and it reminds me of Parisian decor with black, white, and red all mixed in. I like the rug too, but you are probably right, less pattern on your rug means more style in your room.

I'm not sure if you are painting all of your walls or just one? If all red, you could still do a large red rug on the floor. Try something like this Allure Rich Red that looks like rose petals. If you want to avoid red because you have red walls, try something like this Eclipse Cream/Black stunning area rug. Yet again, you could do white like this Ivory area rug I'd stick to black or red though.

With a room like that, try to bring it to life with accessories like wrought iron candle holders, clear glass vases, a classy lamp, mirrors, or chandeliers. Choose decor that really works with a french theme and you'll have a spectacular bedroom.

What is a fun website for a teenage room?
I'm buying a new bed set that is a reversible zebra-print/pink-print that comes with zebra-print curtains and other stuff from Delia's. What is a really fun website for pretty pictures with frames and funky letters and random junk like that to make my room interesting?

dyn-nolita-1310-090.jpgI find PBTeen is a bit too pink and green for a teenage girl. For zebra stripes and other try Ross, Target, or TJ Maxx. It's everywhere in stores like those.

Every room needs a focal point, so on your floor try a large area rug in zebra stripes. A great area rug for your room would be this Animal Print Area Rug if you like black and white zebra stripes.

For other stuff on your walls, try wordtothewall.com or allposters.com . You'll find great posters or wall decals that will add some extra style to your walls.

What color walls for my bedroom with black furniture and chocolate brown bedding?

dyn-300-funky-2706-1109-01.jpgI think if you like a dark color for the walls, you should do it on a smaller scale. If you do the entire room beige with your initial impulse for warm, dark colors, you might really dislike the finished room.

Choose two complementary light colors, one dark and one light. In a room like that, I'd focus on cafe au lait and then a deep, mocha brown. Choose a wall to paint that would best suit the deep color, and have that as your feature wall. All other walls can be the neutral light color.

The best painting tip I can give you for doing something like this is to paint the dark wall first. Let it completely dry, then put up painters tape around the edge so you don't have overflow from the light.

Once you have the painting done, choose bits and pieces to complement the dark color. Black frames look great on beige/chocolate walls. With a neutral room, you can choose art work that is bright and has wild colors, such as orange or red.

On your neutral rug, place a large area rug to contrast with the rest of the decor. A rug such as this funky mid brown-cream rug would really look great in a room with your colors.  I am a big believer in area rugs as a means to pull everything together.

Use your imagination and have fun!

What color should I paint my walls with chocolate colored sectional?

dyn-300-nolita-1312-590-01.jpg
If you don't want to paint it the usual taupe/beige, why not paint it blue?

Blue is a hot new trend in living room/lounge color. With chocolate brown, blue is outstanding. Focus on blues that aren't a babyish shade and you will get powerful results.

Pull your colors together with accessories. A blue brocade pillow on the couch, a ice blue throw blanket for chilly nights, or your favorite memories frame in chocolate brown frames.

On your floor, add some style and depth with a large area rug such as this Beige or Blue Contemporary or this Silver Blue modern area rug.

Although you may think of blue only in terms of bedrooms, blue is a great overall color for your home.

What is the best color for a teenage girls bedroom?

My room is just plain white on the walls and it is so boring, what is the best color? I am almost 15.

dyn-nolita-1310-090.jpg

For a teenage girl, the hot color right is fuchsia. In a small room, you may only want to paint one wall fuchsia, with the remaining walls a lighter color.

I'm a big believer in using the Internet for decorating. If you look at web sites like Pottery Barn or Better Homes and Gardens, you can search for room ideas and narrow down your choices that way. Look at their bedroom galleries and pick and choose between themes and ideas.

If you want to keep a neutral tone to your room, paint it a soothing taupe and use that backdrop to accent with bold colors. For example, if you like hot pink but don't want to paint your walls that color, focus on the pink in bedding and throw pillows, while adding something bold like zebra stripes. The best place to add a bold pieces is your floor. Try a Animal Print Area rug in black and white.

If you have shelves, use baskets with hot pink fabric liners, add a zebra print picture frame; you get the idea.  Mix, match, and have fun!

Help redoing my room! I'm 11, ideas please?

rmk-kid-12-268.jpgAvoiding large, expensive stores such as PB Teen is difficult for people with no imagination.  Lucky for you, I've got imagination to spare, and I can help you kit out your room without actually shopping at PB Teen. It's all in how you put your room together, and a lot of that stuff you can make yourself for half the price.

As an example: The PB Teen  Rectangle Ribbon Board for $59.00.  Buy the exact same size of ribbon board at WalMart in hot pink or white for $9.99.  Purchase some ribbon in stripes or polka dots.  Follow the way that the ribbon board is strung to replicate the PB board. For about $15 you can get something almost exactly the same.

At Ross you can buy a jewelry holder similar to the one at PB Teen.  Add some polka dot fabric and glue it to the back on the frame in the same way that they've done.  Average cost? About $50.

With a theme like polka dots and stripes, you can do almost anything with your walls.  Paint them a deep fuchsia, or keep them white and add a feature wall with some polka dot wall paper.

For your bedding, you can find a lot of stuff out there that will look exactly like PB Teen, but it will be much less expensive.  Try Ross or TJ Maxx.

Tie your entire room together with one piece that really stands out. A large area rug can cover up your existing carpet or provide you with a cozy place to step on in the mornings. For a polka dot/striped room, try something like this Dot Covered Area Rug or this Perky Dot Cherry Rug.

You can create your own picture frames by covering them with fabric, add a self-created lamp shade with fabric and some spray glue, or get your mom to help you with curtains.

If you don't overdo it, I guarantee you will still like this room in high school.
