bfd.jpgIf you are having a hard time finding a theme for your little girl's room, why not stick to the basics? A simple room patterned around hearts and butterflies is not only easy to put together, it looks girly, fresh, and cute without a lot of effort.

Butterflies, flowers, and hearts are as synonymous with little girls as the color pink. You can find many different bedding combination that focus on butterflies and flowers, and then theme your room around them.

In a little girls room, its the walls where you can really have fun decorating. Add some decorative butterflies that you find at a local craft store, and create a collage of them floating up the wall. Adhere fabric flowers in a bouquet and paint a vase underneath your bouquet. Use a stencil to add a trailing vine down the wall, adding flowers along the way.

You can also add some extra touches to any shelving that you have in your daughter's room by painting the shelves and pasting butterfly and flower stickers.

Adding a large area rug to your floor not only protects your existing floor or carpet, but can also add a sense of continuity for your theme. An area rug like this Fun Floating Flutter Glow in the dark or this Fun Rugs Heart Glow in the dark will not only look great, it adds a soft glow after the lights go out.

It's easy to create the bedroom of your little girl's dreams when you have a great theme and the right accessories.
Glow-In-The-Dark Area rugs
Most parents want to create a bedroom for their kids that they really enjoy. Whether your child's room is Disney themed or follows a simple color scheme, the one area that is most often overlooked is the floor.

Your child's floor is often already covered with existing carpet or hardwood, giving you the ability to move past it and tend to other accessories in the room. Yet if you bypass the floor, you are missing out on a great opportunity to add life and comfort to your child's room.

One way to add a functional yet fun item to a bedroom is a glow in the dark area rug. The glow in the dark rugs come in a wide variety of styles and patterns. During the day your child can make believe with a Jungle themed glow in the dark rug or a Sealife glow in the dark area rug . But when the lights go out at night, these rugs transform into a softly glowly virtual nightlight on their floor. Your child will be enchanted as they fall asleep while watching the glow.

Not only are the glow in the dark area rugs fun, they are also a great way to protect existing floor and carpet. Easy to clean, these rugs lay flat and are 100% polypropylene.

When redecorating your child's room, be sure to check glow in the dark area rugs. They are bright and fun, and perfect for nighttime.
dyn-nolita-1310-090.jpgI already know my theme and stuff! Its gonna have purple walls, with zebra themed and pink accents!

The only real rule of thumb with an animal print is to not overdo it. Use the zebra print wisely, and the entire room will really come alive.

Instead of a duvet cover or comforter in a zebra print, try a solid color with zebra print throw pillows. Even one accent pillow out of three will stand out.

Look for interesting places to put zebra print. On your desk, you could use a zebra print lamp shade or hot pink with a zebra sash. On your floor, get a large zebra print area rug like this Shag animal print area rug or this zebra print area rug.

With curtains, it is key to not overdo the pattern. If your walls are purple and your duvet is a solid color, try to stay with a similar purple shade. You can use hot pink or zebra tie backs for the curtains.

Sounds like you are going to have a great room!

Ideas for redecorating my bedroom?

If you like deep red and cream, you could try a french look for your room. Use a palette of deep red, cream, and black.

Paint one wall deep red and the others cream. You could extend the red onto the cream walls by using a stencil of some kind (if you'd like). A good stencil for a french inspired room would be a toile pattern.

You can add wall stickers with quotes that you love here and there. Wall sconces are available that simply plug into your outlet and don't have to be hardwired. A black chandelier is fairly inexpensive if it doesn't have a lot of crystals, and when installed with a dimmer switch, can make your room very mellow or romantic.

Add an area rug to your existing floor to avoid re-carpeting. An area rug like this Allure Rich Red area rug would look great in a red/cream room.

Be sure to add black accents where ever possible. Black throw pillows on a cream or red duvet cover, black candles or wall stickers in black will all look great in a room with these tones.
LIN300-TAB101 Chocolate_Spa Blue-01.jpgFor a Breakfast at Tiffany's bedroom, you could put wall decals on the walls. If you have enough of them, you can create a big pattern without painting. I'd use a toille pattern if you can find one.

Focus on two colors, like a soft/teal blue and black. Use those colors in your bedding, curtains (if you need them), and on the floor. You can separate a small room into spaces if you use an area rug to define the area. Try a rug like this Spa Blue area rug on the floor. It will brighten the room and add a nice visual pattern.

On your walls, you can add clocks, picture frames, and even wall sconces or a hanging chandelier for extra light. You can obtain a plug in wall sconce at any local hardware store.

Have fun!

I'm redoing my 5 yr olds room and he wants under the sea, but 3 of the wall are wood paneling with knots in it?

I would add a port hole (mirror) on two of the walls and paint a door facade that would take you to the top of the ship. Alternately, you could glue a real wooden door on one of the walls and surround it with authentic items that would make it look like a ship.

You can add other under the sea items such as sky blue curtains, a cute duvet cover, and a themed area rug like this area rug that resembles the ocean.

Webbed netting and nautical touches like lanterns or sea shells would also be cute for a room like this.

How to decorate a small office?

I have a small office space of 250 sq feet in my home.

With a space that small, I'd focus on light wall colors. Anything dark on your walls will make the space seem too small. Use a neutral tone and liven up the walls with large prints.

Shelving and storage is always an issue in offices, and you can never have too many spots for paperwork or electronics. Have an entire wall behind your desk just for storage, and invest in boxes, buckets, and other useful items that will hide cords and wires.

On your floor, I'd add a large area rug. Especially if you have hardwood, an area rug makes an office come to life. A contemporary area rug gives the room a professional feel.

As for decorative items, I'd keep clutter to a minimum. You can add some books you love to the shelves, framed photos, and other small pieces of art work. Be sure to add curtains. Although windows are often overlooked in an office, curtains will conceal light and help you feel as though you have a private space.
Would you put tiles in a bedroom?
fai-300-Bistro Loft BSG5218-01.jpg

I'd only put tiles in the bedroom if they were the type that had a heating system built in. Tiled floor, although easier to keep clean than broadloom carpet, is also very cold on the feet.

If you want to put tile on your floor, add a cushy shag area rug right in the spot where you would place your feet each morning. You may wish to cover a few areas with area rugs, while leaving the tile exposed in places where you normally don't walk.

HELP with Tropical decor and Striped rug?

I think the striped rug you choose is more contemporary, and if your look is tropical you won't want a contemporary rug.

Why don't you try a shag or something with long fibers in a neutral taupe?  An area rug like this Coffee Bean Shag area rug would work with the neutral tones or this area rug that is shag but also works well with  burgundy.

You could also add a little tropical splash with a smaller feature rug like this Hawaiian Shirt Fun area rug.
My daughter is turning 13 and she is in love with Spongebob Squarepants. I'm trying to incorporate the colors of Spongebob into a more girly room.

SH-09_278x411-01.jpgI think a Sponge Bob room is a great idea, and it can definitely work with yellow and blue. I'd use the yellow sparingly, and have the blue as your main color.

If you haven't painted your walls, choose an nice bluish/water color. The blue on the walls will mesh well with a zebra print bedding set. There are a lot of fish that have zebra stripes, and if you want to carry over the stripes so that the bedding doesn't look out of place you can use photos of actual fish on your walls. Zebra Danos have stripes. You could do a collage of fish decals on the wall, or place several in a matted frame and hang above the bed.

You can buy throw pillows that are shaped like sea shells. They are very pretty and can add color to a girly room.

On your floor, add a large yellow area rug. A Yellow shag area rug can give the room a Sponge Bob feel without adding too much yellow.

Other fun ideas for a Sponge Bob room: Add a small aquarium. My aquarium had a backdrop of Bikini Bottom. I purchased the backdrop at Walmart for around $4. Use an old round mirror frame and create a 'porthole' on your wall. You can add an aquatic backdrop instead of a mirror, and add accents that make it look like a real porthole.
