The bamboo area rugs offered here at the House Of Area Rugs come from a sustainable source in China. The bamboo plant grows extremely quickly at about 10 feet per year and when the stem is harvested in about 5 or 6 years a new shoot immediately grows.
The area in which this bamboo grows is high in the Anji Mountains. This is significant for two reasons:-
• No panda's live there so there is NO threat to panda's or their habitat and;
• the mountains become very cold in winter and literally freeze for two months of the year, this produces a harder, denser and more durable bamboo than that grown in the tropics.
